Whitehall Wedding Venue in Lexington

Wedding Venues

Elizabeth and Austin’s beautiful wedding took place at the Whitehall wedding venue on a sunny fall day in November.

Whitehall wedding venue is a historic property originally built in 1855. It was a modest two-story brick house and it sat on twenty acres of land. The house consisted of eight rooms, four downstairs and four upstairs as well as a staircase in the center hall. It wasn’t until 1909 that renovations began on the home. A wing was added to each side of the house and one in the back. The iconic portico, columns and circular driveway in the front of the house we also additions during this time. Whitehall wedding venue was extensively refurbished in 1994 under the expertise of local design firm. Whitehall wedding venue offers one of a kind design and tons of character.

Elizabeth was able to get ready in the bridal suite that’s located on the second floor of the Mansion. The bridal suite at Whitehall is a stunning place for getting ready photos. There is cute vintage wallpaper, ten foot high ceilings, white doors and trim, hardwood floors, and a lot of natural light.

Although it was not needed this time of year, the mansion is fully-air conditioned for those hot Kentucky summers. There is also a large catering kitchen and restrooms on both the first and second floor of the house. The mansion can host events with up to 100 guests for a cocktail hour and 75 guests for a seated dinner.

In my experience, many couples tend to use Whitehall’s beautiful gardens for wedding ceremonies and receptions. Which is what Elizabeth and Austin opted to do as well.

The Ceremony

The ceremony was held in the Formal Garden at Whitehall wedding venue. This garden is square in shape surrounded by lush trees, plants and old world stone and iron gates. There are stone pavers on the ground which provides a nice even ground for ceremonies. It is a whimsical and romantic setting for a ceremony! The formal garden can fit up to 200 guests.

The way the light filtered through the trees during Elizabeth and Austin’s wedding ceremony was stunning! This garden was perfect for their garden wedding.

Whitehall wedding venue has other gardens on the property that are stunning background options for couple, bridal or family portraits. The Florentine Garden is a favorite for many couples because of it’s wrought iron trellises and lush greenery. The garden is neatly divided into “rooms” created by borders of taxus hedgerows and arborvitae.

Another popular garden is what’s formally known as the Owsley Brown Frazier Family Garden or the Hydrangea Garden. This garden is nestled within the Formal Garden and is surrounded by stunning hydrangeas. Many couples opt to have a cocktail hour here when these flowers are in bloom.

The Reception at the Whitehall Wedding Venue

The tented reception was held on the Garden Terrace which is adjacent to the Formal Garden. The Garden Terrace is able to accommodate 250 guests which was perfect for this wedding. This garden also has brick pavers on the ground providing an even and sturdy ground for the reception.

There are outdoor restroom facilities, fully air-conditioned and heated, that are available to guests as part of the rental of the grounds and gardens, which is very convenient.

A large white tent was set with draping, chandeliers and long kings tables for guests to easily mingle during dinner. We continued this garden theme with lush floral bouquet as centerpieces. We also added greenery throughout the inside of the tent.

Elizabeth and Austin added a black and white dance floor for dancing. It was the perfect touch to this stunning wedding!
