Why Castle & Key?

Why Castle & Key Is Such a Unique Kentucky Wedding Venue

A Castle and Key wedding seamlessly blends history, elegance, and artisanal charm.

The imposing castle, dating back to the late 1800s, stands as a testament to timeless grandeur, with its stately architecture and meticulously manicured gardens providing an enchanting backdrop for couples to exchange vows.

The venue’s crowning jewel, the distillery itself, adds a unique allure, offering glimpses into the artistry of spirit-making with its copper stills and oak barrels. As guests wander through the picturesque grounds, they are greeted by the soothing melody of bubbling streams and the fragrant blooms that adorn every corner, creating an atmosphere of romance and enchantment.

Whether exchanging vows beneath the canopy of ancient trees or dancing the night away in the ballroom, every moment at a Castle and Key Distillery exudes a sense of magic and sophistication.

Planning a Kentucky Bourbon Wedding at Castle & Key

For couples getting married at Castle & Key, bourbon can be more than a signature drink—it can become part of the wedding weekend experience. As one of Kentucky’s most recognizable traditions, bourbon offers an easy way to give guests a sense of place while creating memorable moments throughout the weekend.

The key is to incorporate Kentucky culture thoughtfully. Rather than turning the wedding into a bourbon-themed event, we love using small, intentional details that feel natural to the setting and reflective of the couple.

Start With a Bourbon-Inspired Welcome Event

A welcome party is the perfect opportunity to introduce out-of-town guests to a little taste of Kentucky before the wedding day. Consider an intimate cocktail gathering with a curated bourbon tasting, passed appetizers, or a relaxed dinner where guests can mingle and settle into the weekend.

For couples hosting a wedding at Castle & Key, the property’s connection to Kentucky bourbon makes this especially fitting. Guests aren’t simply attending a wedding—they’re experiencing a destination and a piece of Kentucky’s history together.

Turn Bourbon Into a Guest Experience

A bourbon tasting can be a memorable addition to a wedding weekend, particularly for guests who are traveling to Kentucky for the first time. Instead of treating bourbon as a decorative theme, think of it as an experience: a guided tasting, a curated selection of Kentucky bourbons, or a thoughtful introduction to the tradition behind them.

This approach allows couples to incorporate something distinctly Kentucky without asking every detail of the wedding to revolve around bourbon.

Create a Signature Cocktail

A signature cocktail is another subtle way to bring Kentucky into the celebration. An Old Fashioned is an obvious classic, but couples can also work with their bar team to create a bourbon-based cocktail that feels personal to them.

Consider naming the cocktail after a meaningful place, shared memory, or even the couple themselves. The result is a detail that feels intentional rather than themed—and gives guests something they’ll remember long after the wedding.

Incorporate Kentucky Into the Rehearsal Dinner

The rehearsal dinner is another opportunity to lean into the location. A bourbon-forward menu, Kentucky-inspired dishes, locally sourced ingredients, or a bourbon pairing can make the evening feel distinctly connected to the destination.

This is especially meaningful for couples hosting guests from outside Kentucky. Rather than simply telling guests they’re in bourbon country, you can create an experience that lets them taste and explore it.
