Planning a Wedding at The Apiary: A Look at the Venue Spaces

The Gardens

What we love:

  • Ceremony possibilities
  • Cocktail hour
  • Outdoor portraits
  • Natural backdrop
  • Guest experience
  • Seasonal considerations

The gardens at Apiary are spaces for ceremonies, receptions, and cocktail hours, with a secluded, European-inspired atmosphere.

The Orangerie

This is an especially good opportunity for descriptive search content.

Discuss:

  • natural light
  • architectural details
  • ceremony vs. reception
  • guest count
  • how florals/design interact with the architecture
  • why couples might choose it

The venue currently describes the Orangerie as a lofty, light-filled space inspired by European cathedrals.

The Winter Room

Explain what type of wedding moment it works best for:

  • intimate gathering
  • cocktail hour
  • smaller dinner
  • lounge
  • rainy-day experience
  • getting guests out of the elements

Important: Use Christina’s firsthand experience wherever possible rather than simply repeating the venue’s marketing language.

The Apiary Wedding Food & Beverage Experience

What we love:

  • Local ingredients
  • Custom menus
  • Plated vs. family-style vs. other formats, if applicable
  • Signature cocktails
  • Wine pairings
  • Late-night food
  • How food contributes to guest experience

Food and beverage can be one of the most memorable parts of a wedding—and at The Apiary, it can become an intentional part of the overall guest experience.

Personalize the Menu

From cocktail hour to dinner and dessert, couples can incorporate:

  • Favorite dishes or family recipes
  • Seasonal ingredients
  • Kentucky-inspired flavors
  • Plated or family-style service

The right menu and service style can help set the tone for the entire reception.

Make Cocktail Hour Memorable

Use cocktail hour to welcome guests into the celebration with:

  • Passed hors d’oeuvres
  • A signature cocktail
  • A classic Kentucky Old Fashioned
  • Thoughtfully selected wine

These details can bring a taste of Kentucky into the celebration without making the wedding feel themed.

Don’t Forget Dessert & Late-Night Bites

A thoughtfully selected dessert or late-night snack can be a fun surprise for guests—and a great way to keep the celebration going.

Ultimately, great wedding food isn’t just about what’s on the menu. It’s about creating a thoughtful, memorable experience for your guests from the first cocktail to the final bite.

How to Plan a Wedding at The Apiary

Getting ready → Ceremony → Cocktail hour → Reception → Dancing

One of the advantages of planning a wedding at The Apiary is the ability to create a sense of progression throughout the day. Rather than keeping guests in one room from ceremony through reception, couples can use the property’s different spaces to give each portion of the celebration its own atmosphere.

Planning a Lexington, Kentucky Wedding at The Apiary

One of the benefits of choosing The Apiary is the opportunity to make your wedding weekend about more than the wedding day itself. Located near downtown Lexington, the venue puts guests within reach of the city’s restaurants, hotels, bourbon experiences, and Bluegrass culture.

Create a Full Wedding Weekend Experience

For guests traveling to Lexington, consider recommending a few nearby hotels or reserving a room block to make accommodations simple. From there, a welcome party, rehearsal dinner, or casual farewell brunch can give everyone more opportunities to connect before and after the wedding.

You can also introduce guests to Kentucky through thoughtful local experiences. A bourbon tasting, Kentucky-inspired dinner, signature Old Fashioned, or visit to the surrounding horse country can add a sense of place without making the wedding feel overly themed.

Give Guests a Taste of Lexington

Rather than filling every moment of the weekend with scheduled events, create a simple list of favorite local restaurants, coffee shops, bourbon experiences, and things to do around Lexington. Guests can explore downtown, experience Bluegrass culture, or spend an afternoon discovering Kentucky’s horse country at their own pace.

Plan Transportation Early

If guests will be moving between hotels, welcome events, rehearsal dinner, and the wedding venue, transportation should be considered early in the planning process. Clear pickup locations and schedules can make the weekend significantly easier—particularly for guests unfamiliar with Lexington.

Ultimately, a wedding at The Apiary can give guests more than a beautiful celebration. It can give them a reason to experience Lexington, Kentucky, together.

  1. Greta Levine says:

Hi I am curious how the seating works at Apiary? If you have 175 guests can you seat them all in the same room with a dance floor? Indoor or outdoor?

    • Christina Burton Events says:

Hello! With 175 guests at the Apiary, the guests will be split between the Orangerie Room and the Permanent Tent Structure. There are several doors that open between these spaces so guests can easily flow between the two. Both are indoors and climate controlled.
